Agricultural Policy and International Solidarity

This report, published in 2006, presents the outcome of a trialogue between the Federation of Swedish Farmers (LRF), the Church of Sweden and the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation (SSNC). The objective of the trialogue was to see how the CAP could be developed to both benefit Swedish agriculture and render the food supply in developing countries more secure. The report advocates the case for using public payments in agriculture to compensate for the public goods and other social values that agriculture delivers. Developing countries could benefit from the phasing out of trade distorting public support, from improved terms of trade with the EU and through increased levels of aid to promote capacity building and the sustainable development of agriculture.
