Environmental NGO Proposal for a new EU Common Agricultural Policy - Consultation Responses
In December 2009 five farming and environmental NGOs came together with a proposal for a transformation of the CAP to help farmers to rise to the challenge of sustainable farming, and to reward those who deliver tangible benefits to society. The NGOs behind this are:
- BirdLife International
- European Environmental Bureau
- European Forum on Nature Conservation and Pastoralism
- International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements, EU Group
- WWF
Together they proposed an approach based on principles designed to protect the natural resources associated with agriculture on which we all depend. Support in the Vision is focused on farming practices capable of producing food, fibre and energy, as well as biodiversity, climate adaptation and mitigation and other public goods.
Since its December 2009 launch the ‘Proposal for a new EU Common Agricultural Policy’ the Vision has been open to consultation via the cap2020 website. For a six month period ending the beginning of June, organizations and individuals have had the opportunity to endorse, partially endorse or reject the Vision in the submission of a statement. Overall five organizations submitted responses endorsing the Vision with a further 14 pledging a partial endorsement. No rejections of the Vision were received.
The consultation was closed in June 2010, but all the responses received can be read by clicking on the organization names below:
